New Monarchs Chart
Today in class, we started filling in a chart on the "New Monarchs" using pages 434-439. For New Monarchs from France, England, and Spain, identify and briefly describe each of the following:
Today we continued looking at the influence of Humanism and changing themes of Renaissance art. Tonight, you will begin looking at the Northern version of the Renaissance and how it was different from its Italian cousin.
Read pages 416-421 and answer the following 2 questions: #8. What is Christian Humanism? What were its main goals, and who were its leading spokesmen? #9. How did the invention of movable type revolutionize European life? Today in class we looked at the "Isms" of the Renaissance.
Read pages 421-425 #10. How did patronage of artwork change from the early Renaissance to the late fifteenth century? #11. Discuss the changing artistic styles in the Renaissance, including the individual portrait, realism, and perspective. How did the subject matter selected for artwork change? Today in class we looked at the bookends of the Renaissance in Italy. Tonight you'll look at the intellectual changes that are going to drive it.
Read pages 412-416 and answer the following: #4. What is Humanism? How did it foster an increased emphasis on the individual and help produce the creative thrust of the Renaissance? #5. What was the humanist view of the proper role of education? What was the role of the classics in such an education? #6. Discuss the dominant ideas and themes in The Prince. #7. What is secularism? Did it conflict with the Christian beliefs of Renaissance figures? Today in class we introduced the themes and and period breakdowns of our course. Tonight, read pages 407-412 to get an idea of the economic and political climate of the Italian Renaissance.
Read pages 407-412 and answer the following (on a sheet of paper, we'll move to digital shortly:) #1.
