Today in class we worked in small groups to create Life Size Absolutists. There is no homework, just study for Thursday's test on chapter 17. Below is a video from Rick Steves, patron saint of PBS, discussing the life, times, places, and impact of Martin Luther. Watch it if you're interested, it's not required.
Read pages 580-584 about the height of absolutism in the Ottoman Empire.

In what ways does St. Petersburg serve as a symbol of Peter the Great's rule and reforms? What does the way the city was built convey the nature of Peter's rule? On the block day we discussed the absolutism of Peter the Great of Russia and compared him to Louis XIV of France. If you didn't finish making the T Chart, please try to finish that before we get together on Thursday. There's no additional reading or homework so use that time to look over previous notes looking for questions and tying content to the themes we've been looking at. (How did kings centralize power and establish absolutism in the 17th century)
Below is the link to the textbook publisher's resources website for our book. It contains outlines of each chapter. You can navigate to other chapters by using the menu in the corner. These can help make sense of the way that McKay organizes his chapters. CHAPTER OUTLINES Today in class we looked at the rise of absolutism in Habsburg Austria and how they changed objectives following the Thirty Years War. Below is the work you were given in class. It will introduce the Hohenzollern family and the kingdom of Prussia. Tomorrow we will also be writing our first SAQ on the rise of Absolutism in France, so you might want to give that content a third look.
Next we'll continue looking at the growth of absolutism, but this time we'll be looking at Eastern Europe. To get started, skim through the section on the 30 Years War and then answer the questions below for pages 565-567.
There is no direct homework for this week. The job then is to spend time studying a little bit each night for our test on Friday. A little each night is better than a marathon session on Thursday. Ask questions as you have them or if things are unfamiliar. The key terms sheet below is a decent place to start, working to understand what the terms are and how they relate to each other. We will spend some time on these on both the block day and on Thursday in class.
